VISION
MES, a Catholic school, is rooted in the spirit and Charism of the
Congregation of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church. The school sees
itself as an accredited Catholic Institution charged with the production of
competent students especially in the Volta Region who shall stand out tall in
intellect, simplicity, integrity and the joy of living with God. The school thus
becomes the seedbed of competent leaders nurtured by competent staff in a
familial, social and religious environment.
HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Mater Ecclesiae Preparatory School, MEPS now Mater Ecclesiae School(MES),
was established by the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church-a local Religious
Congregation of Sisters in the Catholic Diocese of Ho in 1993. The school is located
at Sokode Gbogame in the Ho Municipality. The school started with 30
kindergarten pupils comprising 20 girls and 10 boys in the Sister’s Convent
precisely Madonna House.
The objectives for the establishment of the Basic School was to help give the
children within the local community a higher educational standard because the
academic standard of public schools in the rural areas were gradually falling
compared to those in the urban centers. The results of pupils in the rural areas
were often very poor because of lack of effective teaching and poor learning
environment. This gave rise to the many drop outs in our community after the
Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Some parents as at now do not take good care of their children at their tender ages
before sending them to school. All they do is to give money to the children to find
their own food as they themselves go about their own business hence the
malnutrition and truancy, in some cases, resulting in immoral lives of some
children, increase in waywardness and teenage pregnancy among others in the
rural areas.
In order to cater for these pressing needs, the Sisters saw the need to establish a
boarding school to offer the children in the rural areas the opportunity to have a
better education and to give them good moral training and to see to their social
and spiritual well-being.
